Walter Kravchuk was born in L'viv, Ukraine where he resided until 1993 before immigrating to Canada and settling in Hamilton, Ontario. He is fluent in Ukrainian and also possesses a functional capacity to read and speak Russian.
Walter graduated from McMaster University in 2004 with a Bachelor of Arts Honours Degree, with Distinction. After working as a probation and parole officer in Hamilton with the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services, Walter went on to complete a Bachelor of Laws at the University of Windsor. While in law school, Walter was a member of Pro Bono Students Canada, a caseworker at the Community Legal Aid, a member of the Windsor Law Social Committee, and the President of the Windsor Law Games Committee in Montreal in 2008. In 2007-2008, Walter received the Joel Wargon Memorial Award for achieving the highest grade in Immigration Law & Procedure.
In the summer of 2006, Walter was an intern with the Charity Foundation for Protection of Human Rights in L'viv, Ukraine, where he completed a research paper on conditions in Ukrainian prisons named Ukraine's Penitentiary System: Mass Suicide Attempts Expose Broader Issue (in press: The Canadian Journal of Criminology and Criminal Justice Jan. 2007). The following summer, Walter worked at a prominent personal injury law firm in Calgary, Alberta. In 2008-2009, Walter articled with Pace Law Firm and was called to the Ontario Bar in 2009. He then joined the Pace team as an associate. His interests lie in the areas of commercial litigation, plaintiff personal injury, and estate litigation.
