Anu began her undergraduate studies in the field of Botany at Delhi University in New Delhi, India. After graduating with an Honours B.Sc. degree she pursued law studies at Delhi University's Faculty of Law where she received a Bachelor of Laws Degree (LL.B) in 1993, ranking in the top 2% of her class. This was a fulfilling period of time for Anu: as student coordinator for the University of Delhi and the National Service Scheme, she organised Legal Aid Camps in underprivileged localities and assisted judges and lawyers in setting up Mobile Courts in remote areas.

After immigrating to Canada, Anu enrolled in the Faculty of Law at McGill University and graduated with distinction, earning her second LL.B in 1997. During her studies in Montreal, she did volunteer work, offering her legal expertise to the Canadian Human Rights Foundation and the McGill Legal Information Clinic.

Anu is a member of the Law Society, the Canadian Bar Association and the Ontario Trial Lawyers Association.
